Illex vomitoria is a larger evergreen shrub native to Virgina and further south (mainly coastal areas) and has naturalized beyond. Yaupon Holly can be grown from zone 6b-10. They can grow up to 15-20 feet tall but can be managed for a smaller shrub. Illex vomitoria prefers partial sunlight and calcium rich soils (can be amended with compost containing egg shells/oyster shells. Be wary of extra magnesium in the soil as well).
